ABOUT US

Marquette Choral Society is a mixed chorus composed of members of the community of Marquette, Michigan and its surrounding area and of students at Northern Michigan University. It was founded in 1971.

The group is affiliated with Northern Michigan University. Its musical director is Dr. Floyd Slotterback, who is the Director of Choral Activities in the Department of Music at Northern. The group rehearses at Northern Michigan University.

Marquette Choral Society performs two major concerts per year, one in December and the other in April. Over the years, it has focused much of its attention on the large works of the choral repertoire including the oratorios of Handel, Bach, and Haydn, masses by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, etc.

Marquette Choral Society takes pride in the fact that it has commissioned and given world premieres to four new and important contributions to the choral literature. It commissioned works have been composed by Dave Brubeck, Jackson Berkey (2), and Atso Almila.
